The following is a report from Powerhouse Ministries, a Folsom based non-profit that exists to inspire and empower people to rise above their circumstances, change their lives, and impact their community.
This year’s event was significantly smaller due to the restriction on number of guests allowed. Because of this, we specifically aimed at including our unhoused friends and neighbors, those in our immediate vicinity (low income housing) and folks who have come into our office asking for assistance due to COVID or for Christmas Around Towne.
The food was incredible! In order to keep everything as safe as possible, we barbecued the meal outside on a giant rented BBQ. We served trip-tip, baked potatoes, salad, beans and rolls followed by pumpkin pie.
We had a total of 200 people attend/serve. We set up a socially distanced play area where kids could throw darts, make crafts and play fun games. It was an ABSOLUTE JOY to see their faces in much needed interaction.
Once the meal was ready, everyone sat down at tables with their own “pods” of folks they live with or interact with. Since everything was held outside in a huge tent, we rented extra tables to accommodate the spacing required.
After the meal, we started worship. You could feel the longing of our community to be together and feel God’s presence. The message was encouraging and offered the hope of Jesus in such a challenging and lonely time, Once the service concluded, we sent our team to pray for anyone who wanted prayer at their tables. Next, we served pumpkin pie and invited anyone who was willing to help with clean up!
THANK YOU Powerhouse Ministries for your ongoing care for your community!
